Help 16 pregnant moms get essential packs in Thissamaharama

Today we were able to help 16 pregnant moms of Thissamaharama who have no means of getting essential items for the delivery without our help. When you listen to their story (in their video) you can see how desperate each of these pregnant moms are without the financing to help with tests and other expenses during the pregnancy and they have no extra money left to buy items for the baby. They are overwhelmed to get this pack as it relieves them of a bigger burden and they can look forward to their big day with hope.

We were motivated to carry out this special initiative this month at the request of Anuththara Silva of the "Moms helping Moms SL" group. They wanted us to help with planning and to find deserving moms for basic essential packs (12 packs of Rs. 3000 each). We were glad to be of help and took up the initiative to collect more funds from our contributors as well so we can give our full essential pack which amounts to Rs.10,000 and covers all of the essentials including 30 items (including masks since they are short of it) for the mothers required for delivery as well as for the Newborns. All together Raise Sri Lanka raised enough money for 16 full packs!!

Our dearest volunteer Oshadie Korale made the initial effort of speaking with the midwife Sriyakanthi, who during her service has been helping poor moms like this for the past 32 years and a truly remarkable woman at this job. The midwife was kind enough to reach out to other midwives in the area to ensure people who really can't afford and deserving gets these packs.

And while we were getting ready for this, we were also told that one of the moms wanted to send her 3 children to school and did not have the means to do so, therefore we arranged for the booklist for the kids with a contribution from a generous donor.

This is a deed that would always be in the mind of a mother that you reached out when they wanted it the most. It is truly something you can look back and be happy about

And special thanks goes to our dear friend Nadeeka Sampath Gamage and Shabi Wangsa for the entire effort of coordination, buying the essentials, delivering them from Colombo to Thissa with spending their money and effort to make this possible. You guys really did well!
