Thanks to a generous donation from Sumudu Attapattu in loving memory of her aunt, Dr. Chandra Perera, a small village in Aralaganwila, Polonnaruwa now shines a little brighter.

This rural community had no street lighting, making it dangerous, even life-threatening, to walk home or travel at night, with elephants and other wild animals often roaming the roads. Due to high electricity costs, their previous requests for street lights had been denied.

But the villagers didn’t lose hope. They humbly reached out to us, asking for just 5 solar-powered street lights — a simple yet powerful solution.
With Sumudu Attapattu’s meaningful donation, the support of our amazing volunteers, and the help of the villagers, we were able to make it happen. Today, the paths that were once dark and unsafe are now illuminated, bringing light, safety, and hope.
