COVID affected families in Kalutara North Area

  • Project Start Date

    30-Nov--0001

Today we distributed 25 family ration packs (Rs. 4000 packs(10 qty) and Rs.3500 packs (15 qty)) to the COVID affected families in Kalutara North Area who had so much trouble getting work to feed the families. Words cannot express the gratitude for all of you who donated food within short notice for one or more families. And special thanks to our volunteer Pramila Silva specifically and his humble friends who got the packs ready and distributed with their own transportation to help these families.

Rs. 4000 packs (10 qty) were distributed to the following families for a reason. (Area - Kalutara). It might be surprising but our volunteers did our research as was the previous donation and we could give you the life story and struggle of each family and why they deserve your hard-earned money.

* Saman's Family of 5 - They are living at the back of his owner's garage and he has lost the day job due to COVID

* Gunawathi's family of 4 - Widow, One of the Son's are in prison due to drugs and daughter in law and two kids are looked after by her doing day jobs. The youngest son doesn't have a job

* Siriyalatha's family of 6 - The mother has cancer and the son is working as an aid for a pharmacy and lost his job

* Udangani's family - was living off the earning she made selling jack fruit on the road. Due to Curfew, she has no earnings

* Amala's family - Father cannot work due to old age and wife used to sell curry leaves at the market and due to COVID she is unable to continue her job and earn

* Kolitha's family of 4 - He is on rent and working as a spray painting and helping. But with the current situation, he is not able to support their family with a newborn.

* Indrani's family - The two boys are working odd jobs and plucking coconuts and weeding etc. And now there is no demand so they cannot get food.

* Samantha's family - The old couple has disabilities and cannot work due to it. No children to look after and lives off any earning they can get by doing a job here and there.

* Ratnayaka - Living in a Sunami relief house with three children. Job is creating fishing nets and now there is no demand since fish sales are down

* Yasawathi - Living on day jobs and living alone. Cannot find means to find a living due to the pandemic

And for the Rs.3000 ration packs (15 qty), we have a combination of families. (Areas of donation distribution - Waskaduwa, Pothupitiya)

* There was one individual who has walked 12 miles to get to Kalutara to find food for his children coz there is absolutely nothing at home

* A family where the father who used to be a bus conductor has had a fall and has a metal plate on one of his foot (you can see in pics) and the wife has a nerve issue making her incapable of even performing the slightest of the task (we have a few videos of those who want to help more we can share)

* Five More Families on daily wages, old people who have no one to take care of but used to ask for money when they could walk out on the streets.

* And last but not least we managed to give donations for seven families living in the same square land with minimal living conditions and fishing for a living. They want to continue their job and when they bring in fish, they cannot sell any of it and now they are financially crippled so we had to help.

There are so many life struggles and with your very generous donations, we wanted to help each of them but we had to pick the most critical families who had absolutely no food in their households.

Listed below have helped these families for a total of Rs. 85,000 (10 qty, Rs. 4000 packs each) and Rs. 45,000 (15 qty, Rs. 3000 pack each) and a breakdown of costs is attached as a photo
